What is Eosinophilic Esophagitis?

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic immune system disease which is a major cause of digestive system illness. In EoE a type of white blood cell builds up in the lining of the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach. This buildup, which is a reaction to foods, allergens or acid reflux, can inflame or injure the esophageal tissue. Damaged esophageal tissue can lead to difficulty swallowing or cause food to get stuck when you swallow.

Signs and Symptoms Include:

  • Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)
  • Food getting stuck in the esophagus after swallowing (impaction)
  • Chest pain that is often centrally located and does not respond to antacids
  • Persistent heartburn
  • Upper abdominal pain
  • No response to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) medication
  • Backflow of undigested food (regurgitation)

Aventiv Research is seeking volunteers for an eosinophilic esophagitis research study who are:

  • Adult men and women at least 18 years of age
  • *Adolescent boys and girls between 12 and 18 years of age
  • Individuals that have a documented diagnosis of EoE by endoscopic biopsy prior to screening
  • Individuals with a history of an average of at least 2 episodes of dysphagia (with intake of solids) per week in the 4 weeks prior to screening

*Participants must have the informed consent of parent(s) or legal guardian.
